Arthur Guarino is an assistant professor in the Finance and Economics Department at Rutgers University Business School teaching courses in financial institutions and markets, corporate finance, and financial statement analysis. The first half of his career was spent in the financial services industry. He has written articles dealing with finance, economics, and public policy.
Amisha Parekh is a Senior Sustainable Finance Product Strategist in Bloomberg’s Sustainable Business and Finance team. She is responsible for developing the strategy for Bloomberg’s sustainable finance products and supports initiatives related to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and enterprise products.
Prior to Bloomberg, Amisha was a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s US Strategy, Innovation, and Transformation group. She has helped several manufacturing, consumer goods, and retail clients develop sustainability strategies and improve operational performance. She has previously also worked in brand management at Procter & Gamble and in sustainability at Walmart.
She is the co-author of, High Performance Hospitality: Sustainable Hotel Case Studies, one of the first books published on sustainability in the hospitality industry.
Amisha holds an MBA and Master’s in Environmental Policy and Behavior from the University of Michigan and a BS in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Raghu Ramachandran is the Head of S&P Dow Jones Indices’ (S&P DJI) Insurance Asset Channel. In this role, he is responsible for applying S&P DJI resources to solve problems for insurance companies. Raghu works on how indices are used to create innovative products for insurance companies, benchmarking general account portfolios and the use of ETFs by insurance companies.
Prior to joining S&P DJI, Raghu was CIO at a P&C and a Life insurance company. Prior to working at insurance companies, Raghu was an insurance portfolio manager and head of the portfolio strategy group for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Previously, Raghu also worked at Tillinghast (now Willis Towers Watson), developing stochastic modeling tools. He has extensive experience in portfolio and liquidity management, portfolio strategy, hedging, product development, and stochastic modelling.
Raghu has a bachelor’s in physics and a bachelor’s in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin. Raghu regularly writes and speaks about investment issues related to insurance. In June 2017, Raghu published an analysis of ETF usage by insurance companies which received a “Highly Commended” award for Best ETF Paper by Savvy Investor.
Ulku Rowe is the Technical Director of Financial Services at Google Cloud. A t the forefront of Google’s cloud and machine learning capabilities, she enables the financial services industry to take advantage of Google’s technology to fuel their digital transformation.
Before joining Google, Ulku was a Managing Director of Technology at J.P. Morgan Chase and Bank of America. During her financial services career, she built technology platforms for trading & analytics, middle & back-office, risk management, and finance. Driving business transformation through technical innovation and leadership has always been her focus.
Ulku received her MS degree in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her BS degree in Computer Engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul.
She serves on the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Association.
Richard Sylla is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the Stern School of Business, New York University, where from 1990 to 2015 he was Henry Kaufman Professor of the History of Financial Institutions and Markets. Sylla is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Fellow of the Cliometric Society, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
Professor Sylla received the B.A., the M.A., and the Ph.D. from Harvard University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. His research focus is on the financial history of the United States in comparative contexts. He is the author of Alexander Hamilton: The Illustrated Biography (2016) and The American Capital Market, 1846-1914 (1975); co-author of The Evolution of the American Economy (1993; 1st ed., 1980) and A History of Interest Rates, (4th ed., 2005; 3rd ed. Rev., 1996; 3rd ed., 1991); and co-editor of Patterns of European Industrialization—The Nineteenth Century (1991), The State, the Financial System, and Economic Modernization (1999); Founding Choices: American Economic Policy in the 1790s (2011); and Genealogy of American Finance (2015), as well as articles, essays, and reviews in business, economic, and financial history.
Sylla is a former editor of The Journal of Economic History. During 1998-2000, Sylla served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Cliometric Society, an association of quantitative economic historians. In 2000-2001, he was president of the Economic History Association, the professional organization of economic historians in the United States. In 2005-2006, he served as president of the Business History Conference (BHC), the leading professional association of business historians; BHC presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to him in 2011. Currently, Sylla serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the Museum of American Finance, a Smithsonian affiliate museum located at 48 Wall Street in New York.
